Oolart Garden Studio
Proof that small spaces, when thoughtfully designed, can feel genuinely grand.
- Location
- Urban residential site, Dublin
- Project Type
- Bespoke Garden Studio
Project Overview
On a tight urban site, the homeowner wanted to create a dedicated home gym that felt calm, refined, and architecturally appropriate alongside an elegant period property.
A basic garden room wouldn't suffice. The brief called for a studio with character, strong natural light, and a sense of permanence, despite its compact footprint.
Shomera responded with a beautifully proportioned orangery-style garden studio that delivers light, balance, and architectural presence, while fitting comfortably within a constrained site.
Client Brief
The client's priorities were clear: a dedicated wellness-focused space for exercise and retreat, designed as a studio that complements the period home and garden setting.
The design needed to maximise daylight and visual openness within a limited footprint while avoiding a utilitarian or "box-like" garden structure, delivered to a premium finish with long-term durability.

Design & Build Solution
Shomera approached the project with careful attention to proportion, materials, and light:
- Designed an orangery-style studio with a central aluminium-framed roof lantern, drawing daylight deep into the space and enhancing height and openness
- Used alu-clad windows and doors to balance contemporary performance with refined detailing
- Finished the exterior in crisp render, echoing the tone and texture of the main house for a cohesive architectural relationship

An orangery-style studio whose proportions and dramatic roof lantern elevate it far beyond a garden room.

Proportion & Purpose
- Carefully proportioned the internal layout to feel generous, calm, and focused on wellness
- Delivered a compact yet highly considered 18m² studio that feels bright, balanced, and purposeful

The Result
Despite its modest footprint, the Oolart Garden Studio feels spacious, light-filled, and architecturally confident.
High-end finishes, strong proportions, and the dramatic roof lantern elevate the space beyond a typical garden room.
The result is a private gym and retreat that enhances daily life while reinforcing the visual language of the home and garden, proof that small spaces, when thoughtfully designed, can feel genuinely grand.
